Best truck Ive owned in 30 yrs.
By Merrill | on Tuesday, July 18, 2017
I have had Chevy, Ford, and Dodge trucks in the past. Without a doubt, this truck has served me well and continues to do so. It is comfortable, smooth, quiet, and still starts just as quick as it did the day I bought it. With 275,000 miles and still counting, I sometimes grin as I think about this truck. That is the equivalent of going around the earth 12 times! It is hard not to like FORD for the quality of the truck. The only two aspects that I consider worth noting are: 1- original front rotors are softer and easily warp if towing. Solution: Change to high-end rotors and DONE. 2- You have to know and fully trust in the skills of your mechanic who changes out your spark plugs. The 5.4L engine in 2003 and some other years is known to have aluminum head and there are only about 3 to 4 threads that keep the spark plugs in the cylinder head. If you use the wrong dealership/mechanic or shop, and you can have your hands full with an over-tightened spark plug that can blow out of your engine...about a 1200.00 repair if I recall. If the truck has had TLC over its life, and you have a sharp mechanic, this is not a life-threatening issue.....(that is also true even if the spark plug blows out) I wouldnt think twice about hopping in my truck and driving cross country even now. 275,000 and still on original water pump.....My BMW didnt even make it to 100,000 miles before I had to change that!… - 5.0
Good Truck
By John | on Tuesday, May 26, 2020
I've driven my 2003 F150 XLT supercab V6 truck now for 15 years without problem and only basic scheduled maintenance. I don't ask it to do much work. It is mostly a commuter and weekend project vehicle. The only money I've spent on it beyond oil and tires are new plugs and wires. It has a small rear seal oil leak for over a year now that I am going to need to address at some point. I get about 19 mpg and most of that is interstate driving. It has been a good truck.… - 5.0
Great value, excellent quality
By TD | on Monday, March 23, 2020
I bought this truck new in 2000. It has over 348,550 miles on it and I just replaced the ball joints and tie rod ends. This truck still drives like new, the reliability has been unmatched. It's comfortable and has been a great investment. I can't believe a vehicle can last this long and I have used it. Not as a daily work horse, but I've regularly hauled over 2k pounds in the bed and have towed some heavy loads with it. It has never let me down and just keeps on running. I change the oil regularly and service it myself. I run Z-Max in it every 10K miles. It does consume some oil between changes but that seems to be from leaking valve cover gaskets and the oil pan gasket (I'll be changing those next). This has been a great truck.…
